I asked what type of bass would be a good economical choice. He pointed me in the direction of a Hartke bass and amp. He then got another bloke who was a bass player to explain the ins and outs of the Hartke. He mentioned that Hartke was built by bass players for bass players. And for 500 dollars ($499 really) that is approximately what I would want to spend.

Now my question is, is that a decent price for a 15 watt amp and a, what I thought, nice sounding bass guitar? I wouldn't want to hand out half a grand to be ripped off. Any help would be appreciated.
