You can get a good sound without doing either, but not necessarily the one you want at the moment.  Neither of these will help you cut through a band.  Bringing the mids back up will help you cut through, but at the expense of the "sucked mids" tone.  Luckily, the tone isn't nearly as important in a group.]]></content:encoded>
