Status Quo had a hit with this round about '83 or so - been trying to find a version by them all day, for comparison. I've got it on DVD but for some reason it won't play on this computer. Obviously, Quo's version is a bit more guitar-oriented, with a fairly easy solo. Huh, can't even find their version on Youtube - and there's a LOT of Quo on there!

I'll try it downstairs tomorrow on the DVD player - pretty sure it's in a similar key though. I think Quo use a lot of sixths as well, like the classic blues shuffle.....

:D  :D  :D

Vic

A Mess of Blues
Elvis Presley

Verse 1:

       C
I just got your letter baby, a too bad you can't come home

  F7
I swear I'm going crazy sittin' here all alone

             G7      F7            C
Since you're gone, I got a mess of blues

Verse2:

        C
I ain't slept a week since Sunday, I can't eat a thing all day

      F7
Every day is just blue Monday, since you've been away

             G7     F7            C     C7
Since you're gone I got a mess of blues

Bridge:

F7                           C               C7
Whoops there goes a teardrop rollin' down my face

F7                                 G7 (no strum)         G7
If you cry when you're in love, it sure ain't no disgrace

Verse 3:

        C
I gotta get myself together before I lose my mind

          F7
I'm gonna catch the next train goin' and leave my blues behind

             G7      F7            C     (C7 1st time only)
Since you're gone, I got a mess of blues

Repeat Bridge

Repeat Verse 3

Repeat last line in Verse 3 3x's

Strumming Pattern: down up x up down up x up down up etc.
Start on a down stroke & follow the pattern for each chord change.
Where the “x” is I just lightly lift my fretting fingers and strum with the pick, and then quickly lay the heal of my picking hand across the strings to get a percussive effect.

Notes: Start with an open C chord. When switching between the F7 chord and the C chord, keep your ring finger anchored on the 5th string 3rd fret. When switching between F7 & G7, just slide your barre shape up or down depending on what part of the song you're at. When going from C to C7, just add your pinky to the 3rd string 3rd fret of the open C chord.
This is a good song to work on your strumming patterns, and also to practice playing and singing at the same time. Good luck & have fun!

C = X32010
C7 = X 32310
F7 = 131211
G7 = 353433
