listening back to the song, I'd say that in the orginal recording Uriah Heep play it with a bass and strum eight notes pattern like bd/bD/bd/Bd

Anyway I have a Dvd of the Magician's Birthday Party and in that concert Ken hensley play it with the following, quite fast sixteen notes pattern

chord changes: the song has always the following structure 2 measures of Am, 1 measure of G, 1 measure of Am both in th everses and in the chorus

strummin pattern: it could be played almost with any pattern you wish but I suggest you three different ones (simple/medium/difficult)

simple: straight eight notes in a down and up manner (Du/du/du/du)

medium: D du D du for each measure (1, 2&, 3, 4&)

difficult: bb ddu bb ddu for each measure, also dd ddu dd ddu if you don't like bass notes

Of course first pattern is easier to sing along with, while the "difficult" is more similar to the cd

The pattern is to be played twice on Am, once on G

Micki Box probably uses two fast upstrokes instead of one but the overall feeling of the song remains

I am trying to remember this song (my first mistake).  But is this even close?  I have 4 albums and this is not on anyone of them.  I am going to have to buy the MP3.

Try listening for the beat and doing a simple strum along with it - that's how I played it and it sounded fine.
