Long As I Can See The Light - Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Interestingly, this song was the 7th #2 hit for CCR in the USA, and they never had
a #1 hit there....in the UK, this was their 5th - and final - top 20 hit. That's
as high as it got - #20 - though both "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" and "Sweet
Hitch-Hiker" scraped into lower reaches of the top 40 a year later. CCR did
manage one thing in the UK they never achieved in the USA, though - a #1 hit single.
"Proud Mary" did just that in 1969, knocking "In The Year 2525" off the top spot.

This song's in the key of B, and even though it only uses a few chords, the I(B)
IV(E) V(F#) and VIm(G#m) it might throw a few curves to the inexperienced
guitarists, so I'll tab it out in the original key first, then a simplified
version.

I looked up a few tabs for this, and most of them (well actually, they all look
like the same tab, but on different sites!) have an E6 chord in the intro, tabbed
as 022120.....if you feel you must use an E6 chord, try 779999, as the version
I'll be doing here uses the barred B chord...799877, and it's easy enough to change
between the two.

Intro (use once for fill 1) Fill 2 E7 Riff

     B E B E B
E |--7-7-7-7-7----------------| E |-7-7-7-7s9----| E |-7--7-7--7-7----|
B |--7-9-7-9-7--Repeat twice,-| B |-7-7-9-9s11---| B |-9-10-9-10-9----|
G |--8-9-8-8-8--then drums----| G |-8-8-9-9s11---| G |-7--7-7--7-7----|
D |--9-9-9-9-9--come in....---| D |-9-9-9-9s11---| D |-9--9-9--9-9----|
A |--9-7-9-7-9----------------| A |-9-9-7-7s9----| A |-7--7-7--7-7----|
E |--7-7-7-7-7----------------| E |-7-7-7-7s9----| E |-7--7-7--7-7----|

Play intro, then

(B)Put a (F#)candle in the (B)window,(Fill 1)
'Cause I (G#m)feel I've got to (B)moo-ooh-ooh-(F#)ove,
(B)Though I'm (F#)goin', (E7 riff)goin', I'll be comin' home soon,
(B)Long as (F#)I can see the (B)light.(Fill 2)

(B)Pack my (F#)bag and let's get (B)movin',(Fill 1)
'Cause I'm (G#m)bound to drift a (B)whi-hi-hi-(F#)ile,
(B)When I'm (F#)gone, (E7 riff)gone, you don't have to worry, no,
(B)Long as (F#)I can see the (B)light.(Fill 2)

Saxophone solo comes here - for rhythm, play exactly the same chords & fills as you would for one full verse.

(B)Guess I've (F#)got that ol' travellin' (B)bone,(Fill 1)
'Cause this (G#m)feeling won't leave me a(B)lo-o-o-(F#)one,
(B)But I (F#)won't, (E7 riff)won't be losing my way,
(B)Long as (F#)I can see the (B)light.(Fill 2)

(B)Yeah, (Fill 2)
(B)Yeah, (Fill 2)
(B)Yeah, (Fill 2)
(B)Oh Yeah, (Fill 2)

(B)Put a (F#)candle in the (B)window,(Fill 1)
'Cause I (G#m)feel I've got to (B)moo-ooh-ooh-(F#)ove,
(B)Though I'm (F#)goin', (E7 riff)goin', I'll be comin' home soon,
(B)Long as (F#)I can see the (B)light,(Fill 2)
(B)Long as (F#)I can see the (B)light,(Fill 2)
(B)Long as (F#)I can see the (B)light,(Fill 2)
(B)Long as (F#)I can see the (B)light,(Fill 2)

(FADE OUT)

OK, that's the original.....now for the easy bit.
Capo on the 4th fret; for B, play G; for E, play C; for E7, C7;
For F#, D; and for G#m, play Em.

So the first verse would look like this....
WITH THE CAPO ON THE 4TH FRET......

(G)Put a (D)candle in the (G)window,(Fill 1)
'Cause I (Em)feel I've got to (G)moo-ooh-ooh-(D)ove,
(G)Though I'm (D)goin', (C7 riff)goin', I'll be comin' home soon,
(G)Long as (D)I can see the (G)light.(Fill 2)

For fill 1, play G and C chords; for fill 2, G, C and D; for the
C7 riff (formerly known as the E7 riff!), try alternating C7 (x32310)
with C7sus4 (x32311) simply by bringing your first finger into play
on the top E string.

Couldn't be much easier, huh?

This one's for Shady Harrison, who had a couple of questions.....and just for comparison, this is the tab that Shady found, in its glorious entirety........

Put a candle in the window
Cause I feel I've got to move
Though I'm goin', goin' I'll be comin' home soon
Long as I can see the light

Pack my bag and let's get moving
Cause I'm bound to drift a while
When I'm gone, gone you don't have to worry, no,
Long as I can see the light

Guess I've got that old travelin' bone
Cause this feeling won't leave me alone
But I won't, won't be losing my way
Long as I can see the light

OK, my tab might not be 100% accurate, but it's as close as my ears can get it.....and I'm hoping a bit more accurate than the above!

:D :D :D

Vic
