Well here's a great easy one for all you CCR fans.

This is an old prison blues song which has a Legend in that: As the midnight special train goes past the prison if it's light shines on you through your cell bars you will soon be freed.

It has been performed by many including Leadbelly, the great Lonnie Donegan(Of British skiffle fame), and apparently it's one of those songs that the young John Lennon and Paul McCartney performed in their early skiffle Quarrymen days too. In fact everybody has had a go at this one so "Why not you! Why not us! Why not everybody on GN!

This is the CCR version but you can speed it up and have great fun with it

(initially, single, slow strums of each chord)

VERSE 1:

(D)Well, you wake up in the (G)mornin'

You hear the work bell (D)ring

And they march you to the (A7)table

You see the same old (D)thing

Ain't no food upon the (G)table

And no fork up in the (D)pan

But you'd better not complain, (A7)boy

You'll get in trouble with the (D)man

(now speed up tempo and strum continuously; all subsequent verses have
 same pattern as chorus)

CHORUS:

Let the midnight (G)special

Shine the light on (D)me

Let the midnight (A7)special

Shine the light on (D)me

Let the midnight (G)special

Shine the light on (D)me

Let the midnight (A7)special

Shine the ever-lovin' (D)light on me

VERSE 2:
Yonder come Miss Rosie
How in the world did you know
By the way she wears her apron
And the clothes she wore
Umbrella on her shoulder
Piece of paper in her hand
She come to see the gov'nor
She wanna free her man

(CHORUS)

VERSE 3:
If you're ever in Houston
Ooh, you'd better do right
You'd better not gamble
And you'd better not fight
Or the sheriff will grab ya
And the boys'll bring you down
The next thing you know, boy
Ooh, you're prison-bound

(chorus twice; 2nd time, at last line, decelerate, with break at "light
on me," to final strum of D)

Cheers everybody,

Chris

Here's a link to a vintage CCR performance and a Paul McCartney performance slightly faster:

CCR:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DksGi7B5BdM

Macca:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo5Ek89Tqto
