Hi folks, its been a while since I posted anything so lets see how we get on with this one.

I was told to learn this song as it is a real gem ..
I was also told never record as it is posessed ...Strange things happen to people who record this song ....

Well, it just so happens to be a running joke I share with the old man, mainly because of how much I hated that song when Dr and the Medics did it (I don't mind it so much now :)) He owns a goat farm in Montana, apparently. Norman, that is, not my dad :wink:

Something I mentioned to Barnabus a while back....
Norman Greenbaum's version peaked in the UK charts at #1 - it was his only hit...
Dr and the Medics' version peaked in the UK charts at #1 - it was their only hit...
Gareth Gates' version peaked in the UK charts at #1 - it was his last hit...(HOPEFULLY)
So if anyone wants to do a new version, fine....we'll see you at #1....and wonder who you were a few years later....
That song is the kiss of death to a recording career!!!

Sorry but people tend to forget Dr & the Medics had a top 30 'smash' (well #29) with their follow up 'Burn' - I bought it anyway
and according to Everyhit.com, the Gatester had a #3 and a #4 afterwards.

Don't remember the Dr and the Medics follow up at all....and these days, I don't even look at the charts that much...but I do remember the conversation I had with my daughter about Gareth Gates, it went something like this,,,,
Kayleigh - "Hey Dad, guess who's in the charts with Spirit in the Sky?"
Vic - "Go on, shock me..."
Kayleigh - "Gareth Gates!"
Vic - "Oh cr.....actually, Oh Good!"
Kayleigh - "Good? Thought you hated Gareth Gates?"
Vic - "Yep. Let's hope he gets to #1 with it!"
Kayleigh - "Uh - you've lost me...."
I then explained about Nom G and Dr & the M's......
BTW, GG might have had another couple of hits, but he's been very quiet lately....and anybody seen the Kumars in the Charts since?

Oh and Rod & Chris - you're both old enough to remember the Glam Rock era.....next time you hear Alvin Stardust on the radio, ask yourself where he lifted the riff - and even the guitar solo - to "My Coo Ca Choo" from.......
