there's a couple of thing i don't understand about this song.

First, some of the underlying chords are unfamiliar and are not easily fretted on a guitar like E/G#, C#/E#. Then the chord progressions are difficult to follow on a guitar. Was this song written on some other instrument?

Second, i know that this tab is correct but what does this tab have to do with the underlying chords?

Third, is the way to play the song if you are not singing? in other words, if you are singing should you be playing the chords?

I don't use my thumb at all.
On the opening hammer on I use my middle finger on the low E then moved accross with my index finger on the 3rd string and middle on the 2nd string and do the hammer/pull bit with my ring finger.
After that I use ring on 2nd string, middle on 3rd string and index on 6th string.

Nice tab! This song was a lot easier than I thought. I've got the verse and chorus a lot quicker than i expected. Only thing is I have to keep my fretting hand in this funny claw grip all the time to fret the low E with my thumb from one side and the G and B strings with my index and middle finger from the other.

yes terrific song with very meaningful lyrics , I m a old computor nerd when copying tab paste it into your note pad , you won't have to change anything and you can print it out with the entire line of tab complete

I do a little mini-barre with my index finger on the 2nd fret and hammer and pull off the d note using my middle finger. Assuming you're using your index to hammer on the low E string it's easy to just drop it down over the G, B & high E strings.

Try ring finger on B string and hammer on/pull off with pinky....
I had the same trouble as you and then tried it this way and after a short amount of practice found it easy....also found it good for working the pinky..

I'm having trouble with the beginning of this. I can do the very beginning, the open low E, the hammer on, the open A and the A on the G string, but it is the hammer on and pluck on the B that messes me up. Any hints/tips?

It may be my timing, but I doubt it - it just doesn't seem to sound right. It is a beautiful song, and it pains me to butcher it so ;)
