Another oldie from the sixties - the chords aren't that easy for beginners, BUT......you could always play them a full tone lower. The guitar solo, on the other hand, has got to be the easiest solo ever recorded by a major league guitarist - a certain J. Beck, esq. at that!

This was written by a bloke called Graham Gouldman - he didn't have much luck as a performer in the 60's, although the Yardbirds had a hit with this and "For Your Love", and the Hollies had hits with "Bus Stop" and "Look Through Any Window" and I think "No Milk Today" was one of his songs - Hermans Hermits covered that succesfully. He did, however, make it big in the 70's with 10cc - they were huge here in the UK, and I think he even collaborated with Andrew Gold under the name "Wax".....

Anyway, enough waffling, on with the song......

Intro (Rhythm guitar plays the Dm Chord)

    Dm
E |--------------------------|
B |--------------------------|
G |----5h7-7-7p5-7s9-7-5h7p5-|
D |--------------------------|
A |--------------------------|
E |--------------------------|

(repeat three times)

Dm G Bb Dm
Sick at heart and lonely, deep in dark despair,
Dm G Bb Dm
Thinking one thought only, where is she, tell me where,
Dm G Bb Dm
And if she says to you, she don't love me,
Dm G Bb Dm
Just give her my message, tell her of my plea...

      D G F D
And I know, if she had me back again,
 	Bb F D
I would never make her sad,
 	A G Dm
I got a hear....art full of soul!

(intro riff twice)

Solo.....(played over the same chords - Dm, G, Bb, Dm - as the verse.)

E |-------------------------------8-10----|
B |---------6-8-6----------6-8s10---------|
G |-5s7-7-7-------7--5h7-7----------------|
D |---------------------------------------|
A |---------------------------------------|
E |---------------------------------------|

E |---------------------------------------|
B |---------6-8-6----------6-8-6-8s10 10--|
G |-5s7-7-7-------7--5h7-7----------------|
D |---------------------------------------|
A |---------------------------------------|
E |---------------------------------------|

      D G F D
And I know, if she had me back again,
 	Bb F D
I would never make her sad,
 	A G Dm
I got a hear....art full of soul!

repeat intro riff twice.....

Dm G Bb Dm
She's been gone such a long time, longer than I can bear,
Dm G Bb Dm
But if she says she wants me, tell her that I'll be there,
Dm G Bb Dm
And if she says to you, she don't love me,
Dm G Bb Dm
Just give her my message, tell her of my plea...

      D G F D
And I know, if she had me back again,
 	Bb F D
I would never make her sad,
 	A G Dm
I got a hear....art full of soul!

repeat intro riff four times, ending on a Dm chord.

Funny, but the more I listen to that solo, the more I could swear it's Page, not Beck.....

Anyway, here's a link to a great version on youtube.....

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=R4HIgqFnvik

:D :D :D

Vic

Vic
