Haven't been around here for a while so here's a easy classic R&B song taken into the top ten here in the UK in 1964 after being given the Liverpool beat boom treatment by "The Swinging Blue Genes" a great group who lasted about as long at the top as the beat boom. Although I did see them at Cirencester Corn Hall during the early seventies much changed. Don't know if they still perform though.

"You're No Good" was written by Clint Ballard, Jr. The song was first recorded and released by two female soul singers, Betty Everett and Dee Dee Warwick. It became an R&B hit for Everett in 1963. In 1975, Linda Ronstadt took a more rootsy art rock approach to the song and her version went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and top ten on the Billboard country chart. Even Amy Winehouse has had a go ruining this one (Opps sorry Amy not my scene I suppose!). (Right that's my Vic Lewis pop guru impression done this week while he is on sabbatical from GN   )

If you listen to the Blue Jeans recording it has a geat hook bassline for all you bass player guys out there. Haven't got any tab for that though! Any takers there please?

Can't find the Blue Jeans version on Youtube but here's a link to Linda Ronstat's version to give you all an idea:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DWo93hdJY0

Intro:

(Am) (D) (Am) (D) x2

Verse 1:

(Am)Feeling (D)better, (Am)now that we're (D)through

(Am)feeling (D)better, (Am)cause I'm over (D)you

I've (F)learned my (G)lesson, it (C)left a scar

(Am)Now I (D)see how you (E)really are

Chorus

You're no (Am)good, you're no (D)good, you're no (Am)good

Baby, (D)you're no (Am)good, (D)I'm gonna (Am)say it (D)again

You're no (Am)good, you're no (D)good, you're no (Am)good

Baby, (D)you're no (Am)good

Verse 2:

I (Am)broke a (D)heart that's (Am)gentle and (D)true

Well, I (Am)broke a (D)heart over (Am)someone like (D)you

I'll (F)beg her for(G)givness on (C)bended knee

(Am)I wouldn't (D)blame her if she (E)said to me

Instrumental break:

(Am) (D) (F) x2 then (F) (G) (C) (Am) (D) (E)

Bridge:

I'm telling (Am)you now, (D)baby,, that I'm (Am)goin' my (D)way

(Am)Forget (D)about you, baby, cause I'm (Am)leaving this (D)day

Chorus

You're no (Am)good, you're no (D)good, you're no (Am)good

Baby, (D)you're no (Am)good, (D)I'm gonna (Am)say it (D)again

You're no (Am)good, you're no (D)good, you're no (Am)good

Baby, (D)you're no (Am)good --- (D)Oh, (Am)oh, (D)oh

Vocal only, no chords:

You're no good, you're no good, you're no good, you're no good
Baby you're no good,

Outro:

(Am) (C) (D) (D bend) repeat and fade

Have fun

Chris
