We couldn't get hold of the specified 2n5087 and ended up with a 2n3906, which doesn't have as much gain. I have however now got hold of a transistor closer to the original spec, though with even higher gain. If the overall gain still stays low then that volume control will be bypassed and used for range control instead.]]></content:encoded>
