The venue is meant to send a list of songs played to the Performing Rights Society (or whoever collects the statistics for royalties in each country).<br><br>Whether they do or not is open to debate - I've never known a venue do so.<br><br>Copyright lasts 75 years, except for UK Crown Copyright which lasts 150 - this might be where you're getting 1927 from.<br><br><br>A :-)<br><br>]]></content:encoded>

                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[Hi all<br><br>hope this isnt a repeat of stuff already covered  :D,  but here goes:<br><br>I read somewhere that songs pre-1927 were not copyrighted, so anyone can use them. <br>- is this date right?<br>- is this an international rule or just US?<br><br>How does this go for covers? In Brisbane (Oz) where I live, every pub has a cover duo that does the latest pop songs - would they be paying commissions etc?<br><br>If I play in a few local cafes, what do I have to do if I throw in a couple of covers?<br>]]></content:encoded>
