                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[If the bar ever has musicians who perform covers, or if they have a DJ that plays recorded music for the crowd, then the bar has payed some sort of royalty licensing, and you should be legal. <br>If you happen to be a paid-up member of the Songwriter's Guild and Licensing Enforcement Cabal (or whatever it's called), then you might even get a couple of pennies back from them if you play some of your own compositions. At least in theory.<br><br>On the other hand, if you were playing covers on the street (busking ferinstance) then you'd probably be on the poop list with some variety of music industry enforcers. <br>But you'd probably also be way under their radar. (unless you happened to be in front of their office or something)]]></content:encoded>

I'm not quite sure how it is in the States but over here bars and pubs pay a certain ammount of money that gets divided among artists every year, coverbands don't have to worry much about it as long as they play in bars and pubs. An open mic somewhere on the streets would be different here.]]></content:encoded>
