I agree to some extent, and not to another. I've only been playing guitar for a few months, so my recording attemps are very slow, and I've obviously been using words for a lot longer then I have been playing guitar, so I can write a bunch of songs lyrically before I can finish one musically. Actually I'm still working on my first hybrid now. Hehehe.

So there's that, but there's also the fact the lyric writing and music writting are very different skills coming from completely different parts of the brain. So even if you don't have the skill to attach music to all of your songs, your still able to develop your lyrical skills. Which in todays music world, I believe, are highly under-refined in a lot of bands. "All I've got, All I've got is insane!!!" WTF?!?

But I do agree that people should at least be Trying to put music to their lyrics. It just takes longer for some of us.

Anyway, that's my take.

No idea where these melodies come from but they come to me as I'm writing the song.

As for major, minor, fast or slow. It's easy to tell from the lyrics. Take Vic's 'Screw The Neighbours' it doesn't scream slow acoustic ballad to me. And a lot of times, I post lyrics and get replies like "I'm hearing power chords with distortion."
p.s. I know that I recently did just what im saying not to do, but I did put at the top that it was not a song yet just let me know what you think of the writing. So ha.

I'm pretty sure everyone posts lyrics and does that. It's just not everyone says it. I think it's implied.

Hey just as a general statement for everyone, a lot of people seem to be posting only lyrics and giving no cues as to how it will sound. I understand that not everyone has equipment to record, but some basic stuff like beats per line or maybe dare I say some notes would be extremely helpful. Half the time I feel like im reading poetry and its very difficult to say good job man nice song when I have no idea what the song sounds like. Is it major or minor? Is it fast or slow? The lyrics to some of the greatest songs ever written are extremely simple, and if they got posted on this site with no music everyone would probably think they sucked, but with a mp3 everyone would be like man thats the best song ever. And as of now im recording onto a webcam, it completely sucks but it gives people an idea of what it sounds like. Even if the quality is bad it is helpful to just know the tune so you can hum it while you read the words.

p.s. I know that I recently did just what im saying not to do, but I did put at the top that it was not a song yet just let me know what you think of the writing. So ha.
