Youthful idealism is a beautiful thing,
Reminds me of the first blossoms of spring,
But winter is coming,
For me at least,
And it's gone
Like an empty swing in the breeze.

In its place I'm left with a tired nothing
And a taunting feeling that this is 'the real thing'.
That winter has come
And it's here to stay
And there's just
No point in being dismayed.

Accept my fate with a shrug,
Expect the worst and I'm covered.

Dreams and hopes and aspirations
Exist only to betray.
Take life as it comes
Because you aren't gonna get it any other way.


Your horror at the idea doesn't surprise me,
You still believe in luck and guarantees
But winter is coming,
A thief in the night,
You'll be left
With a candle you can't ignite.

Is this attitude really so defeatist?
I don't feel like I've given up at heart.
After all,
Which is worse?
To dissapointed or to expect it from the start?



There's a lot more I could write here, but I wanted to see how this much would be received and if it's really worth going on/editing.
