Yes, that is the question!   :mrgreen: I would recommend you try both.  I think different strengths and weaknesses will surface.<br><br>One week I tried an assignment both ways.  You can hear them here if you like:<br><a href="http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=896900&amp;content=music">http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=896900&amp;content=music</a><br><br>Written music first:<br>Y7 Wk 10 Stars<br><br>Written lyrics first:<br>Y7 Wk 10 All is Quiet on the Western Front<br><br>A "formula" that seems to be working for me is as follows:<br>1 read the weekly assignment<br>2 find a unique angle or idea<br>3 work out the universal idea in the chorus <br>4 do some 'research' on the topic or idea to build in concrete images <br>5 work out the story in the verses <br>6 add music to the verses<br>7 make the summary statement in the bridge {lyric focus] and have it contrast the other sections musically<br>8 post it and be open to rewrites to clarify the idea or make it better musically<br><br>.... right now, my emerging challenge is to diversify musically, so I will most likely have to break this 'formula' some time soon to diversify<br><br>Hope that helps a bit....and welcome!  :D <br><br>James]]></content:encoded>
