You could imitate the it using a mulit-effects or modeling amp. If you want the real deal you'll need some fairly expensive equipment. With creative use of an compressor and Eq. You could scoop out most of the midrange to get rid of the mud and the very high end to get rid of the fuzz. The result would be an aggressive sound.(!).

Here's a few amps that will work nicely Marshall JCM-800, Marshall Valvestate, Peavey 5150, Mesa Dual Rectifier.

Joe

Hahaha. Now there is an oxymoron. Raw 80's metal tone. tehe. I'm sorry, but the only thing "raw" about eighties metal were guitarists' fingers from shredding too much. Not to say that the sound they get isn't cool, but it is definetly not raw. But anyway, I can only speak for getting scorpion tone. A staple part of Michael Shenker's lead tone was his wah pedal set in one position. So if you want to recreate scorpion stuff, i suggest getting a wah pedal, as it is a must. Then a decent effects processor should be able to get most of the 80's metal tone, as much of it was computerized and processed, the exception being van halen. Hope that helps.
