Found out some things too. The body is a plywood frame covered with Masonite. Won't see that anywhere else.

This new Dano has an improved bridge, so now you can adjust the intonation.

The ad also reminded me of something I knew, but forgot about. When you switch the pickup switch to middle postion, you get a big volume boost. This really works, Danos were famous for this. So solo time, just hit the switch.

Not trying to push these guitars on you at all, just trying to give you as much info on these guitars as possible.

They in NO WAY compare to higher priced guitars. They are basic. They almost seem homemade.

Danelectro's were very popular back in the 50's. Danelectros today are popular as "retro" guitars. They are very BASIC guitars. I think mine cost $200 new. They are on the same level as Squiers. They are just good budget guitars. They are built well for the low price.

But Danelectos are known for good tone. Mine sounds really great plugged or unplugged. You just have to hear one. They have a warm, round tone, but are very tight as well. But I can only speak of my particular model. But I was amazed the first time I played it. They really sound good.

I am not really even sure what the body is made from. It may be plywood, I don't know, the whole body is painted. The finish is pretty good. It has screws all over the back holding everything together. As I said, they are very unusual guitars.

David's and my Dano has the famous "coke bottle" headstock shaped like the old coke bottles. But only the older members remember those. :D

Last night after posting I pulled mine out and played it for awhile. It was still in tune and I haven't played it in at least a month. That's pretty good. I have quite a few guitars so this one doesn't get a lot of use, but I would never get rid of it because of it's great tone. I told you the neck is fast and it is, and the frets are all seated properly, but you can feel the frets down the edge of the fingerboard. Just trying to give you an idea of what these guitars are like.

Jimmy Page did use a Danelectro on Kashmir and that song has awesome guitar tone.

Those pics say it all. If Jimmy Page used a Dano live, they must be pretty good guitars.

Oh, and baritone guitars are good for today's down tunings. They have a longer neck. I am not exactly sure, but I believe most baritone guitars are tuned to C, which would be two full steps below regular tuning. And the string tension will be correct at this tuning. This is actually a very cool little guitar. Notice the two-tone volume/tone controls. These take a little getting used to. The outside brown part of the knob is volume, the inner white knob is tone.

The pickguard is just a clear piece of plastic. The white binding around the body is tape. This tape comes off on some people, mine is ok.

The bridge is very different. It is held by the screw in the rear which you can just barely see behind the D string. The front of the bridge rests on two screws in the body. So when you take the strings off, the bridge can fall right off. Also, the strings just hook over the very back edge of the bridge. And the saddle is wood or plastic (looks like wood). So you cannot adjust the intonation on this guitar. The tuners are not too bad, the guitar stays in tune alright. If you have to adjust the truss rod you must take the neck completely off.

The neck is pretty fast and the fret job is good too. It is easy to wrap your thumb over these necks.

So all in all, these are very unusual guitars. But they really have a great tone, I can't describe it, because they don't quite sound like anything else. Maybe a little like a Gibson SG.

The pickups are single coil lipsticks. They make a little noise.

I don't know what to say.
