They've got a capacitor that short-circuits high frequencies to ground while letting lower frequencies pass, and a potentiomenter that adjusts how much high frequency signal is bled off through the capacitor. It's impossible for any passive tone circuit to boost any frequency range; they can only do so relatively by taking away in another range.

The "Grease Bucket Circuit" thing sounds like marketing gobbledygook, and not very tasty at that.

The white pickguard was replaced by a Fender Relic Mint Green (they faded it somehow to a very slightly green, creamy color) one, and the maroon satin paint had been rubbed out with polish to a lovely soft sheen. Lovely guitar, prettier than the glossy USA Standards IMO, and it's a very nice player. I think it was worth it, but I don't have anything against the Mexi Standards, either. Got a Mexi Tele a few years back, and it's a fine player.

When I bought my Highway one I was after a standard strat in a satin finish. THe biggest difference between the two is in the pickup electronics quality. Worth $300 + tax more? Was to me, may not be for you. Although, if you're thinking, get the cheap one and upgrade the electronics later it may be cheaper in the long run to get the Highway 1 instead. Figure at least $100 for a good set of upgraded SC pups. About another $100 to $125 or so for somebody or a shop to install them. So right there you are already close to the price on the Highway. (Unless of course your a DIY person)

I've never regretted my purchase. YMMV.(Your Mileage May Vary)

I also own a Schecter Omen 6 and it's a good guitar for the price. Love it too, but it's a totally different sound and feel than my Single coil, maple fretboard, Highway 1. Then there's that "Strat" sound.

My only regret is the satin finish. Although it looks great, it dings, and chips, easy. Don't bother me too much as any dings on mine are "love" marks anyway. But, if you're one of those people that like things to stay in near as new condition, don't get a strat with a satin finish if you plan on playing it.

Really comes down to what you want, what you can afford, and personal preference.
