I've heard Howlin' Wolf's band do it with the lead riffs played on the harp. In fact, I've got a CD sitting in front of me that has that on it. "HOWLIN WOLF: THE MASTERS"

Almost everything Elmore James recorded has that basic "Dust My Broom" riff and rhythm on it, and Howlin' Wolf used it a bunch, too. Listen to Wolf's "Highway 49." Just like Elmore's "Broom" with different words. It works with lots of other stuff, too. 3-4 years ago I was sitting in a steakhouse with country Muzak and heard some guitarist play a well done rendition of the old Elmore James "Dust My Broom" with some whiny nasal Nashville singer moaning over it. Can't identify the song, singer, or guitarist, but I knew what he was playing note for note.
