I'm stuck in a university town with a bunch of students so I have none to talk to about gear. Second of all, it's pretty much not out here yet so nobody knows anything about it, and third, I really don't want to throw a couple of grand in the toilet. Any information would be helpful. Gossip? Experience? Observations? Everything is appreciated :)

I played one...different from a Strat but just as nice. The ability to change tuning with literally the flick of a switch is pretty cool.

For the £1300 you pay, I think you get a nice guitar out of it. Although is it really worth paying another £600 just to not touch the machine heads?

Although of course, its not just that. Its 37 different sounds and 5 alternate tunings. And of course you have the ability to bypass the VG circuit and have a Strat when you want it.

So is it just a gimmick? Hard to tell. Likely as not older players will see it as something pointlessly modern - they won't need all those tunings and tones.

For modern players (and as a friend and I discussed, session musicians) it will probably be the ultimate guitar. A strat and a whole lot more with the same guitar. Loads of people seemed to like the Line 6 Variax didn't they? Well this is about 100 steps ahead of that in my opinion.

They probably won't out-do Stratocasters - not in the forseeable future anyway. But its an interesting idea and will probably gain popularity...

Just my 2 cents :)

For $2000+, they damn well better be pretty decent strats.

But are they really just a gimmick, or are they the future for any serious studio musician? I mean, the price speaks for itself. Do you think you should pay that absurd amount of money to be able to get a pitch-shifted artificial sound aswell? Is this really good? I mean, do I get the same problems like when you change a tone with your whammy-bar? Of course I like it on paper, but how does it actually sound? Would you recommend it?
