I have practiced all week standing up, which made a huge difference in my confidence as well.


We get back with the drummer next weekend! I'll try to have a stand by then so I can hear myself.

My co-worker, who plays bass, is also a decent guitarist. His parents bought him some mid-line gear (at the time) when he was in High school.....nothing fancy....just a FREAKING 1979 LES PAUL PRO with P-90's! Got it new back then for $700.

He let me play with it a little - but I was afraid that either:

1. I'd break it

I think I'll start working on "Hold On Loosely," too. My instructor from the beginner and intermediate classes I took through Adult Ed last year put me in touch with some guys in my area. We're of similar ages, musical tastes, and skill levels. Was it sitting on the floor? If the answer to that was yes, then did you tilt it back so the sound was aimed at your head and not your ankles?

I'm particulalry interested to hear how you get on cos I'm in a similar situation, (old fart, family, job etc) and I'm just about starting to feel confident enough to want to start playing with other people. Just need to find the right people now.

Standing up is a little different at first, but once you get used to it, it's hard to play sitting down.
