                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[I've pretty much got the foot tapping thing down for simple beats.  It's become pretty natural to do.  What throws me though is the other than 1,2,3,4 patterns.  It's ok if it's not entirely like that but some kinds of syncopation can throw me.  The most difficult for me are the rhythms where almost nothing is on a beat but almost all on the "and".  My foot stops following the beat and follows my hand.]]></content:encoded>

I have weird kinda Dave Mathhews/Joe Cocker thing going on with my leg. (<I>queue the music</I>...I can't stop my leg...)<br><br>I play my acoustic in my living room (great acoustics in there) and almost always use a tiny digital recorder. When I listen to these recordings I always laugh at myself. Moderate blues tempo....you can hear my foot...(tap, tap, bang, clucnk)  :oops: Thank God no one ever watches me play!!! :lol:]]></content:encoded>

For me, it's easier and less annoying than using a metronome  (that constant "tick tock tick tock tick tock" really gets on my nerves and so I get distracted by it!).  The only thing about foot tapping, though, is that you pretty much have to have a good sense of timing anyway for it to work properly.  If your foot tapping is off, so is your rhythm.]]></content:encoded>

Most beginning musicians on any instrument try to use tempo to express dynamics. <br><br>It takes a long time to get over that tendancy.<br><br>That's one reason why always practicing with a metronome or drum machine is essential to developing as a musician.]]></content:encoded>
