The old pups have more of a muddy sound where the crunch of the distortion is kind of blended. The new pups are hotter (louder & brighter) and the crunch of the distortion is MUCH clearer. Sometimes you might want a muddy sound but you can set that with your EQ & distortion pedal.

However, I did take your advice and put them in my Squier instead of the Behringer (I figured I can put the Squier pups in the Behringer). Plus I did solder instead of just splice the wires (well I cut the wire and spliced them, added solder, then a wire cap. I have 2 recordings below...It's the song Sunshine of Your Love by Cream. The first one I did 4 days ago with the old pups and the second I just did quickly this morning. I left the settings the same on the V-Amp patch and I can hear a HUGE improvement in the tone!

Please let me know what you think!

Old Squier Pups

New GFS Pups

No, but his very thick overdrive changes it a lot. But listen again to his pinch harmonics - that bridge-of-the-nose sound comes through again. Well it does to me :wink:Of course now I can't find the article where Billy was talking about pinch harmonics, but I thought he'd called them "buzzies." It just might've been "squealies," in which case, there might be some stuff in the outro of "La Grange" that fits the above description. But, that's . ("Everyone's got one . . . ")
I listened to the GFS Retrotrons - and the Memphis one is just what I'm getting at! I don't dislike the sound, don't get me wrong, but it's such a strong flavour I couldn't live with it for my main axe. It'd be like putting Jalapeno peppers in everything you cook. Delicious in the right place, but not all the time :shock:I like that analogy. 8)
"The jalapeño rates between 2,500 and 8,000 Scoville units in heat.
