Good question kat, and a really fun one! I think some of our friends nailed that tone right away as the Boston sound, I agree, though it's fantastic that the Huey Lewis' guitarist got back to you with the real facts. 8)

Sticking with the premise that this is is Boston and Rockman sound, I so fully agree, and yes, long live the 80's! Uhhhh.... and the 70's, as in Boston and Tom Scholz, guitarist, innovator and engineer from M.I.T.

I got really far into the Rockman links and looked up the company, and read it till way past bedtime. But I wasn't about to answer or make a post yet. Easiest thing to do would be to buy the vintage gear?

But I was fairly sure that this sound is on the Zoom G1 and presumably on the new G2; I have a G1 put away in storage and recall hearing the patch, preset, whatever - it seemed right to me.

So I've googled that and came up with another forum, except it was in Spanish, but agreed, and basically, get your G1 and go to C7 per this quote (not all quotes and things people say are true, but this could be right on).

"29. Authentic Rockman Sound: C7 Od 26 7 20 C3 H6 24
A pretty good Rockman sound. Use the neck pickup with the tone control all the way down."

And I agree you can use a Strat on the neck pickup, I would put the tone all the way down however. Yes, there's more.... per http://www.taringa.net/posts/info/827552/Patch-para-pedalera-Zoom.html
Comp: OFF
Dist: Od
Gain: 4
ZNR/AMP: 3
EQ: 25
Mod: C7
Dly/Rev: r5
Level: 24

I both appreciate and marvel at the positive direction and posts in this thread, as soon as somebody said "Rockman". It was great fun looking up all of this and reading tech info http://www.rockman.fr/ :D

And if you have all the pedals or effects separately, you could tweak it all and get a similar result, the hard way.

Well, it does pay to ask questions, I have found. I looked up the guitarist for Huey Lewis, who is Chris Hayes. Currently lives in CA, has a webpage w/ tracks on it. I emailed him about this question, & approx. three hours later he replied! Very cool, I was definantly impressed. :)

His reply -
Thanks for your interest. If memory serves me, I used a 68 Les Paul, and a Marshall 50, with a 4x 12 cab on that "Do you believe" track.
The effects were all in the mix,we always recorded all the guitars dry, but yes, there was probably some chorus,or a little harmonizer,
and some digital reverb of some kind. ( Lexicon 200 maybe?) Now I am using "Amplitube" software which is really fun. Check out the Amplitube Fender software, I love it, no more miking! Sometimes you still have to crank up an amp and stick a 57 in front of it, just for old times sake! Cheers, Chris

Problem is, I cannot afford a 5K - 10K 68 Les Paul at the moment, so I will have to work on getting the sound otherwise. I guess the strat he was playing in the video was just for show. Makes you wonder how much of what we see is not the "real deal" behind the scenes. Video may be shot containing one thing, but the studio tracks laid down with something completely different...

Funny how it is harder to detect "subtle" sounds & effects than if a guitarist has them on full blast. I really like that think mid-tone he is putting out. I will have to play w/ my amp settings & delay to see what I can come up with.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I appreciate it.
2,3,4,5,6, etc., sets of ears are better than one! :D
