I've been working on a version of this song a lot recently because we're going to insert it into my band's rotation so I can get some love, but it's not quite ready yet. You seem to be hitting most of the right notes, but as you mentioned your timing is off. It's tricky to go note for note without a beat because it sounds like SRV is really cooking when he plays this song but actually it's moving at a pretty slow tempo.

If you want a backing track there's a good one at http://www.guitarbt.com select downloads and you can find it from there. The first one is the one that doesn't stink, I think. That will help a lot with timing. Although for me the best way to get timing down is always to just play along with the song in WinAmp using the slowdown addon. It also has the ability to modify the pitch so you don't have to retune to play along with the guys who play a halfstep down. I think when I was learning SRV's little wing I had it set to about 50% speed. When I learned Hendrix's version about 3 months ago, I must have had it at 99% speed. The concept of playing a solo on more than one string was completely foreign. My hand was mangled for about a week straight. It was worth it though, I totally rip licks off Hendrix and SRV when improvising. There's a part of Cold Shot that seems to work it's way into every song I play.

I can also play about half of the solo portion. It's going to take awhile and a lot of repetition to get it to where I like it though. I just wish some of the solo portion sounded fuller. For example, the part in which SRV plays:

----------(15)pb17-0-------------------------------------
-------------------0-------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------

His bend seems to have a lot more umph behind it, it sounds a lot more fuller. I think it partially has to do with his technique/set-up.. but does anyone know if he's playing it on overdrive? I've heard a couple different versions, but I can't really tell as I'm not too familiar with what a tube amp sounds like on overdrive.
