I recommend the $300-500 range simply because under that you tend to have to look on a guitar by guitar basis, as the quality control goes down considerably.<br><br>The average $300 guitar is usually no better than the very best $100 guitar, but you don't have to play 10 in the store to find that one really special one.]]></content:encoded>

I'd agree with the concept of not buying cheap but that is a relative term.  When I was a teen my parents bought me a "cheap" guitar that was a no namer from Sears.  Hated it.. Didnt want to play.<br><br>Grew up and bought myself a $125.00 Montana that most would agree is cheap, but it sounds awsome.  Recently bought a $600 Ovation and while I love playing it, I actually love the Montana more.<br><br>Have one of your friends play it a bit. But more importantly, you'll have a guitar that is good enough to not frustrate your playing as folks above have noted.]]></content:encoded>

                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[I agree that you shouldnt buy the cheapest guitar to start on, but for 150-200 bucks I bet you can find something you can actually learn to play on, as well as a guitar that can serve you well for years to come. If looking for a guitar to take to the beach, I suggest an all laminate guitar, no need to worry about the climate, laminates seem to be a better opotion than soild woods if its something you plan on taking outdoors and draging to college, they seem to hold up well. Many laminated guitar can be found with a really good sound. Good luck and I hope your guitar brings you much joy.]]></content:encoded>
