Dennis (Corbind) has a real souped up model with Jensen? speaker and modifications inside as well. It has a wood cabinet that is beautiful. There are several others (forgive me for forgetting) as well.

I am not sure, but I can't think of anyone who has the DeVille. I was going to say though, DeVille owners say the 4 X 10 has the better tone over the 2 X 12. I know thousands of gigging musicians swear by this amp. Many compare it to the famous Fender Bassman "The Rock Amp" of all time. But the Hot Rod series has the Drive channels, which is a nice addition. I actually like Drive more than More Drive myself. You can get some great rhythm guitar crunch. But when you want to solo, go to More Drive. It will sing.

The best feature of these amps is the louder you crank them, the better they sound.

I don't want to make these amps sound like the greatest amp ever. They are not. But for the price they are exceptional.

Oh yeah, before I forget, here is the Unofficial Hot Rod Deluxe site. This will tell you loads about your DeVille. The Hot Rod Deluxe and DeVille are really the same amp, you just got more speakers!

The Unofficial Hot Rod Deluxe Owner's Guide

Qrious

Oh yeah, I was never dissatisfied with the sound of my amp. I am not the type to swap out speakers, tubes etc... the first day I get an amp like some. I have always believed in spending time tweaking an amp. Even the same amp will sound different with different guitars and pickups. Even a great amp has to be tweaked to get the best tone. I say just turn those knobs all over and listen till you find the sound you love. You'll find it. But I read so many great reviews I tried it out of curiosity. I like it.

Another easy trick I like is to simply run a Volume Pedal through the effects loop. You still run your guitar into the normal guitar input. Now you can crank Volume and Master way up to 6-8. You can still have your guitar volume to 10. But you can bring the volume down using the pedal. This is not the same as simply turning your guitar volume down as some say. Now you are getting full output from your guitar's pickups. You can get some nice dirty overdrive distortion on the clean channel this way. I have compared the sounds. It is warmer and a little hotter. You can back off your guitar volume a little to clean it up.

Have fun with your DeVille! :D

I own the Hot Rod Deluxe which is just the little brother of the DeVille. They are great amps, especially considering the affordable price. They are truly one of the best values out there. I have had mine for 3 years now and it has had heavy use. The only problem I've had was the jewel light burnt out. I went down to an auto-parts store and picked up two exact replacements for $2. Other than that, it's been perfect. I owned a Marshall amp before that. I loved the tone, but the thing started falling apart on me. I think Fenders are built MUCH better.

The clean sound of the Hot Rod series is excellent. Probably the only better amp is the Twin. It is also very effects friendly.

The Drive and More Drive channels is where this series suffers a little. They are not Metal amps. They are a Blues or Classic Rock amp. You can get that 60's-70's sound. If you want modern Grunge or Metal distortion you just need a good pedal. I use a Danelectro Fab Tone and I can almost get the Marshall tone... close enough.

Some people complain about the reverb. They say if you turn it over 3 it is just too much. WELL, DON'T TURN IT OVER 3!! I know what people mean, but I like to crank up the reverb sometimes, you can get a great Surf tone.

One simple and inexpensive upgrade you can do is replace the stock tubes. After reading many reviews I replaced the 3 preamp tubes with JJ ECC83S tubes from Bob at Eurotubes. These really tighten up the bass. The Hot Rod series can be a little "farty" with the stock tubes. I used to turn bass down below 3. With the JJ's I am able to crank bass to 6 or 7 and it is tight.

Eurotubes

When I first got my HRD I wasn't that thrilled with the looks either. But now I love it. I have the black and silver tweed as well. It is such a classic vintage look. But I know what you mean about looks influencing a buying decision. Who cares? Go for the tone!

I am sure you are going to be happy with your HRDv. It is a great amp. Look into the Weber 50W Load Dump with Volume Control. Then you will be able to crank your amp to saturation at low volumes. You will not believe how these amps sing when they are cranked. It will cut right through the mix with any band. Sweet!

Weber Load Dump

Here's my baby.

Rock On!

Wes
