A phantom power source supplies power to the microphone through the 3 wire cable that connects the microphone to the mixer or amp that it is going into . The voltage does not affect other non-phantom power microphones but will supply power to those devices that do need it . The advantage gained is that dead batteries will not prevent a device from working .
