                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[Condenser microphones and some (most) effects pedals require a current to function . Many times they have a battery to provide this current . Some also can run on phantom power . Professional microphones are generally balanced , which means they require a 3 wire cable (XLR or TRS) to connect them to a mixer or other balanced input device . <br><br>A phantom power source supplies power to the microphone through the 3 wire cable that connects the microphone to the mixer or amp that it is going into . The voltage does not affect other non-phantom power microphones but will supply power to those devices that do need it . The advantage gained is that dead batteries will not prevent a device from working . <br><br>I hope this helps .]]></content:encoded>
