The overall sound of the pickup is not what I want. I am not in pursuit of any particular tone that I can put my finger on. As I said I am a bit of a tinkerer and I'm thinking about doing it to "see" (so to speak) how it comes out. If I like it I might keep it, if not, no biggie, I'll put things back and tinker with something else. For now the pots and capacitors will remain stock until I hear what happens (if I go ahead).

Who knows waht the future will bring, individual switches, all hums with coil taps, monkeying with the various series/parallell options. This is simply a pursuit to see what it comes out like, to change the sound without a particular goal with only the knowledge that what it's like now is not what I'm happy with (although it was fine to me a month ago, strange, eh?).

In any event has anyone here tried this little mod I propose?

Have you tried adjusting the height of that bridge pickup? Are the individual pole pieces adjustable? Tried subbing different values of tone capacitor? Different pot values? There are a lot of other things that can be done aside from changing the pickup. What exactly is the tonal deficit of what you've got, and what are you looking for? You need to define those as clearly as possible before shopping for pickups, if you're a tone freak. (Myself, I pretty much accept how anything sounds.)

Allrighty then.

I picked up (no pun intended) a Dean electric with the H/S/S configuration a while ago. Having been an acoustic strictly guy I an now understand why folks get off on these electic things, they're great toys. In any event I love the way the guitar plays, and I like the sound in from the bridge humbucker and the middle single coil. So switch positions (starting from the bottom) 1 to 3, I love. But (ain't there always a "but") the neck position pickup is pitiful. After monkeying around with every setting I can think of I have come to the conclusion that it has to go.

I have been toying with the idea of replacing the neck pickup with a single coil slot dual rail humbucker just to see what happens to the sound. While swaping these out I was also considering re-wiring the middle pickup and switch so that , in positions one to five on the switch (starting from the bottom) I would get humbucker (bridge), dual humbucker (neck and bridge),humbucker (neck), single and humbucker (middle and neck) and single (middle).

The hands on work is not a concern to me as I am familliar with a soldering iron but i am interested in knowing if anyone here used this configuration on a strat / copy? What were the results? I guess, allthings considered, if I do it and don't like it I can always go back ( I love to tinker with stuff).

Any constructive feedback is welcome.
