Here's how I do it, marked with strokes:
D U D U D U D U D U D U D U D U ---0-------0---0---0-------0-2-0- ---0-------0---0---0-------0-2-0- ---1-------1---1---1-------1-2-1- -----------------2--------------- ---------2---4-----------2------- -0---3-4-------------3-4--------- The advantage I find in doing it that way is that I alternate pick the lead breaks, so my right hand is pretty much doing the same motion all the way through the tune.

If you find the fingering too much of a stretch, just mute the 3rd string and play the whole thing in 2nd position. I think the real trick is playing in a lazy way (like behind the beat) to make it sound good.
