I also think it a good thing that you have incorporated this into your playing. Many new players wouldn't think to add this to their repertoire. Its a great tool to have. Keep using it. You will be able to "turn it off" when you need to.]]></content:encoded>

                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[Joe: the fact that you recognize it should not be used 100% of the time is a good thing. you'll be able to work your way back, though maybe not all the way, as newer players tend to over-strum to the point of droning. and after a while, you'll be able to mix it up with ease.<br><br>facilitating a more ringing strum from the guitar PoV: there are certain axes that "beg" to be strummed and allowed to ring out, as their timbres are complexly beautiful with harmonic richness  (conversely a dullish, fundamental-heavy guitar benefits from percussive/muted strumming). so if you have a guitar that is beautifully voiced for chimey sustain, play that. it'll bring back the desire to use a ringing strum. (hint: a 12-string is a natural for this!)<br><br>from a technique PoV: use more open ("cowboy") chords, as these sound fuller and more complex than "higher up" barre equivalents. plus, not using the barre removes the easy temptation to use fretting hand muting.]]></content:encoded>

It makes a single guitar sound very full if you ask me, but like you it becomes too much of a habit.  I'm still not that good at it, but I'm glad I've practiced the technique enough that it doesnt scare me :)]]></content:encoded>
