Rockin Robbie

I believe everyone can sing. If you can talk, you can sing. The secret to singing is finding your own voice. You may not be able to sing like your favorite singer. Maybe your voice is too high or too low. That's ok. We already have Eddie Vedder, and we don't need another.

You may not think your voice is so great. Join the club. But have you ever listened to some of the most successful singers? Listen to Bob Dylan. Does he have a great voice? Not! How about Bruce Springsteen, or Tom Petty, or Neil Young, or Elvis Costello, or Willie Nelson? I don't think anyone would say any of these guys has a great voice. But all are very successful singers. That is because they have discovered and use their own voice to it's best potential. And all of these fellows have very original voices and that is one of the secrets to their success. So that is what you want to do. You have a voice like no one else. Maybe it's high or low or somewhere in between. It doesn't really matter. Listen to Geddy Lee of Rush. The guy sounds like a girl for heaven's sake. But he has learned to use that voice and has been very successful. And you can certainly recognize when he's singing!

There are ways to improve your voice. You can find a voice teacher in your town and take lessons. There are also many free lessons on the internet. And they really help too. Just type free voice lessons in Google and do a search. There are many. Here is a good site.

http://www.vocalist.org.uk/voicetraining.html

But one thing you will read in all these lessons. They will all tell you not to copy other singers but strive to find your own unique voice. Hey, we could use a new voice!

Wes

I cannot say I am the best singer and am wondering if it is possible to substantially improve ones voice (vocal range) by certain reasonably simple exercises. I have never seen anyone or been taught how to sing correctly...

Any feedback from experienced singers whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! d^_^b
