These royalties are called 'mechanicals', and the best way to go about making sure you get them is to join a performing arts society like BMI or ASCAP.  They handle the bookkeeping and audits, take 1/2 for their cut, and send you a check for your half.<br><br>Half might sound like a lot, but I don't know any artists that have the ability to monitor radio station playlists on their own....]]></content:encoded>

I am flattered by the notion that my songs could be on a cd and be heard, but I dont know the business side of it.  I plan to keep the copyrights, but I dont know how songwriters get paid.  Im sure its something per number of cd's sold, but how much?  Or am I even close?  <br><br>Any help is appreciated, but I really dont need someones idea of how it works.
