demoetc , is that you playing a tele.If yes , i can't believe it
Smkindog.
You did that because you know I love black guitars and am in G.A.S. mode right now didn't ya.
I have an American strat and an American tele. very different guitars.
the strat has it's characteristic squak tone, bright clear treble from the bridge. the neck pickup has the clear bell tone. great for jazz if you roll off the treble. then the switch position just up from the bridge position has what I call the Ry Cooder tone.
teles are called the worj=king mans guitar. having one nderstand what they mean, ya have to work the guitar to coax those great tones out of it. another reason is that they are built like tanks or steel toed workshoes.
I have read that the classic tele twang is from a ccombination of things. besides the body style and weight teles have a bit more oomph in the bridge p.u. and the bridge plate is traditionally ferrous metal. the proximity of the magnetic p.u. and the ferrous (iron=magnetic) bridge has an effect that we can hear and defines the tele twang.
some reissues or clones have non ferrous bridges. they dont have the same tone.
since the bridge plate is chromed to tell if it is ferrous or non ferrous just place a refrigerator magnet on it. it should stick. if not then you have a brass bridge plate.
I am no expert or tech whizz. the pots, winds on the pu.s in either strat or tele could be differnt. thus different tones.
I am glad I have both. cant say hto if I am a strat or tele man. so I'll go with single coil freak.

No that's Roy Buchanan.
I have a goatee, but not that talent.
though purests are gonna tell you the "real" Fender line sounds better. It's a good idea to compare a higher end Fender Tele to what you might buy to see if it's close enough for you.
Yah, the 'purists!' I had a guy on the Fender Discussion boards tell me my 70s Fender Strat 'wasn't a real Fender' because I'd changed the pups out to Duncan HotStacks.
...ooookay....
It's almost a mojo thing all by itself!
Actually, Wes might have something to say about this. Two summers ago he joined the Riverside Jam and brought along his new Squier Tele. He was quite happy with it. Since then, he's picked up a more upscale Tele in the Fender line. IIRC, he wrote somewhere in these forum pages that his newer Tele definitely had more of the classic Tele sound.

The Saga kit I'm building looks exactly like 'Dogs (black body, headstock), except it will go either pickguardless or MOTS.

With all the talk about building guitars lately I am really seriously considering it. I have some time right now so maybe there is no better time. Gotta mull over this a little.

I own a '03 Squier Standard Tele 3 tone sunburst and a '04 Fender American Tele vintage white.
I would not say you can get the real Tele "twang" with the Squier. But you can get pretty close. The Squier has a deeper tone, I have heard this is because of the Agathis body. My Fender Tele has the Alder body with Maple neck.
The Fender definitely has better tuners and hardware than the Squier, but the Squier's quality is not bad at all. The workmanship on the Squier is very good, the Fender is just perfect.
The Fender has a wider, thinner neck. Very fast. The Squier neck is narrow near the nut. It took me a few weeks to adjust to this, but I do not have any problem with it now.
The Fenders pickups are smooth and clean, the Squier is rough and dirty.
Really, it is the Ash Tele that gets the true twang. But my American can get twang easy.
IMHO the Fender is better for Country, Jazz, or Rock. But if you want to play some dirty Texas Blues, man the Squier is bad to the bone. It has great breakup and the deeper tone rocks. You can get that ZZ Top tone.
So they are a little different. But they are both great guitars and I love them both.
If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis
Welcome my Children to the First Congregational Church of the Telecaster
On the first day Leo invented the Tele, although it may have been call ed by other false names it was the Tele.
Others were cast out of the heavenly place known as fender, as they followed the fallen angel gibson, and other worshipped the son of Tele Strat. But I tell you my children, all funk and all blues and all R&B, the sacred trinity flow back to the one source, the one true shining light in the heavens of guitardom, behold the TELE

I ran into my friend who owns the music shop where my G&L Tribute is waiting last night. I told him that I was going to go down there today and give his employee $10 and tell him that Manny (my friend) said I could take it home and owe the rest. Manny laughed and said that would be fine, he knows I'm good for it! Ha!
We were both a little tipsy, but I am actually going to do it and see what happens. I spent the money for the guitar on the Turbonegro show in SF last Tuesday. Great show, but I spent $360. That was the guitar right there.
It'll be the nicest, most expensive guitar I own, and the tone is insane. :D
Oh, and "AMEN" Tele!
and an "AMEN" from me....
:D :D :D
