I have a volume pedal and the panning left to right is a pretty good idea. I guess what I meant was just certain elements of a passing train. I actually want the notes to be high and I don't want the pitch to really change. I'm realizing a volume swell will be necessary. I remember the first time I heard it was in "Death Whispered a Lullaby" by Opeth during the solo. Right when he starts the solo he uses that weird effect. Have any of you heard that song? Sure hope so.]]></content:encoded>

To make that even more metallic sounding, I recommend a flanger, plus as mentioned above, use of alternate (mis-)tuning may help.<br><br>Another thought: try scraping the wound strings instead of picking or strumming.]]></content:encoded>
