Okay so here is my story of the origin of the Washburn ec36 and ec29 guitars. As you may know ec stands for extended cutaway. The extended cutaway was developed by a luthier named Stephen Davies from Seattle. Washburn contracted him to develop their very first electric guitar and they wanted it to be top of the line which is why the electronics on the ec's are so top of the line for their time.
One night my band was playing a show at the off ramp in Seattle and as usual I was armed with my weapon of choice the guitar of doom. After we got done playing a man came up to me in tears to shake my hand and told me that he was so happy to see that guitar on stage because he had never seen one played in a show and that he and his recently deceased friend Steve spent 2 years lovingly building every one of them for Washburn at a luthier shop in Lynwood WA.
Well that's my story of the origin of these beautiful instruments and I believe it because there is no good reason that the man that told it to me would have lied.
Peace

Apparently this thread has been untouched for 10 years. I own two ec36, one from the first year and one from the second. I bought my first now known as the guitar of doom or 36 frets of death when it was new and the second from a friend who bought it through eBay about 10 years ago. There are many versions of where these guitars originated and even Washburn didn't keep records and can't say for sure. I've related what I know and have been met with doubt from other ec owners and know it alls who have decided that they all come from a certain Japanese plant and they have good reason to believe that because of the high end electronics and the unusual finishes that the ec's have. I'll tell my story on my next post.

The pickups on this one are standard, including the mid-range booster, and, with that up full the sound is really hi-gain. I also have a Kramer with EMG's on and that has nowhere near the same amount of gain.
