I think it varies from person to person based on what their goals and expectations are for playing, and their overall satisfaction with their progress. I think sombody who teaches themselves has to have an idea of what it takes to play, and how they should go about learning. Specifically, what they need to learn, and what general order would be best for learning it. But, in all, for sombody who's new to music that's a pretty daunting task. They have to be really stubborn and patient.

Looking back at my year of playing, I'm pretty shocked about what exactly I've managed to accomplish on my own. But then somtimes I'm not because I know how agressively I like to attack new things and learn all I can about them. And one thing I have to say, is that this website has been really instrumental in my development and overall increase in knowlege about music and guitars. I don't know where I'ed be without the GN articles, reading these forums, and listening to the things people here have to say.

This is honestly the friendliest forum I've ever visited, and it's been a real big help for me and I'm sure many others.

Anyway, as far as teaching, I think it's somthing everyone should try. After a while I'll probably go in for some lessons to see if there's anywhere I can improove upon my self-learning process.
