I remember those posts, I think I might have thrown some gas on them.

I like linear pots for violining, other than that, I don't touch any of the pots on my axes.

General rule, 500k for humbuckers and P90's, 250k for single coil Fender style pickups. There are exceptions, i.e. my 72 Tele had 1M pots in it.

Hell, try them both and see what works! 2 - 10 is just the same volume - very inconvinient live.
when i replace those what do i ask for? those are linear taper. you want to replace them with audio (or log) taper pots to get a full range of use. I've heard it said that certain amp manufacturers do this to sell their amps. The line of though being that the guy buying it in the store will think "wow, it's really loud and it's only at 2!"
