Hello All,
I just purchased my Strat Deluxe and Champion 600 amp. I immediately changed the tubes in the amp to JJ tubes. I installed an ECC803s gold preamp tube and 6V6s output tube. When powered up the sound was extremely distorted with crackling and whirling faint in the back ground. I replace the output tube with the the factory tube the sound was still extremely distorted but the crackling and whirling seem to be gone. The I put in the JJ output tube and the factory preamp tube and the sound is no longer distorted and the crackling a whirling are not present but with the amp at higher volumes the sound is quite bright and with the amp at lower volumes and the sound is warm a fat, much more to my liking. So the output tube is good and the preamp tube is the problem, but does anyone have any input as to what the problem is with the tube? Does the longer plate design affect things in this manner?
I offer my thanks for any replies.

Russell
