I have the American model of the Burns Split Sound guitars, namely the Ampeg Burns model Jazz Guitar. The Split Sound control setting may have been for stereo amping. I missed that point if it is true. For me the setting was different but pretty useless. I used the guitar back in the '60's and only used the treble, "wild dog", (a milder, more muted and full treble), and the jazz selection. The neck and playability of the guitar is beyond superior. The lowest strings in the universe and still had tonal qualities that were sharp and clear. On Youbtube you can find demo's of the ampeg and burns guitars. Beautiful sounds for the songs of that day for sure. Really bright. Of course you should know that instrumentals were a part of the various groups repertoire back then. We played Ventures, Beatles and other cover songs in their instrumental version. A great time to be young. The neck was of a smaller scale than todays Fender Strats, Tele's and Gibson LP's. Good for a guy that isn't 6'3" with hands like bigfoot. I still play mine and love the tone. Still, split sound evades my idea of useful.

Tom Boyer, "Crescendos" House band for the Logan House, Murphysboro, Illinois.
Good luck to you.

He tapped - fingers of his left hand played thythm, fingers of right hand tapped the melody and his thumbs played the bass line.
Thinking about it, in that context, it made some sense.
Yes, I have a Burns, a guitar that I'd recommend to anyone.
