Thanks to everyone's replies, I think I've got it figured out. You were all correct when you said that when either knob is turned the whole way down, it kills all sound. I did some experimenting last night and, when in the middle position, both pick ups are active as long as I'm sending some volume to both of them.

This is the way Epiphone wires their pickups. In the middle position turning either volume pot all the way down will kill any output. There are other wiring methods that can overcome this if it is a problem for you.

I assume since you didn't say otherwise, that if you switch between treble and rhythm they work fine individually.

Make sure they are both working by putting the switch in each position and tapping on the pickups with a coin to see which one is working in each each position with the amp turned on. Any help would be appreciated. It's a 45 minute drive to the shop I bought it at so I'd like to know if I actually have a problem before I drive out there.
