cotton dampened with H2O is a great cleaner.

a guitar polish is good too, but Ive always used water and cotton cloth.
I keep a clean cotton dish towel in my guitar case to wipe it down after use..

You don't want to put water on the guitar, but sometimes you can use a very slightly damp cloth - like hardly wet at all - and wipe the stuff off.
