Maybe we'll hear on the weekend.

I tried to duplicate the problem on a variety of 24 fret guitars (in stores) yesterday. They were all good, though not expensive. Some of the same model, felt different than others of the same model. Mostly Yamaha. The one with the highest action felt most dependable, although I prefer low action, which is asking for trouble if the guitar is bent.

I couldn't try Ibanez's, there was no point, because they only stock higher end Floyd Roses.

No problem. Just my view. It would take me 1 minute or 60 seconds to make and slide in a little shim, changing neck pitch. Afterward it would take another minute or two to actually retune the guitar, and get the neck to reseat itself in the pocket properly with the screws that were loosened and re-tightened a 1/4 of an inch, or thereabouts.

Also if it didn't work, it can be undone to exactly the previous way, with little effort - so take the shim out and forget it.

If the owner can't fix his own guitar, he may or may not have the little hex keys necessary to adjust saddle height, and that's always more of a PITA to me. Unless you take the attitude that you really get satisfaction out of that.

Then for sure, there's an intonation job waiting to be done, and I don't enjoy that or wish it on anybody, unless they are at the beginning of the spectrum, and absorbing it all as a welcome learning experience.

It could be more hassle bringing it back to the shop for something like that again. Sorry it wasn't resolved the first time.

Personally, I don't mind doing long hard jobs including building the guitars, but it's those darn repetitive things like saddles, bridge adjustments IMO that are boring and repetitive.

With regard to the problem - the advice to lower the pickups is the first and least troublesome remedy where applicable, and it was intuitive to make that call on drop tunings.

I tried to be similarly intuitive about the choking at frets 23 and 24 if fretting 21 and 22, after reading about that guitar model's jumbo frets and bolt-on neck.

I tried to think of perceived or given knowledge of the individual, as may be transferred to the instrument, and of the potential tools at hand? 8)
