I wonder if it's hitting a higher fret? If you watch the string very closely, you may see what it's hitting.

Doesn't sound like a nut thing, if all the strings involved are fretted higher up.


If it were me, I'd just stop fretting the 10th fret on the E string when playing the A. ;-)

Does it matter what note you play on the A string?

How old is the rattle? Has it always been there, or is it something that's just started? If it's just started, then you need to think about what might have come loose- made any adjustments recently? Or knocked it on something?


Aside from that, my experience is that if something is rattling, it's usually the nut. If it's come loose, and the piece itself is moving, it can be glued back.

If the strings are carving deep enough into it to rattle back and forth, it probably should be replaced. I had some success putting a match stick under a nut (to raise it) for a while, but had to replace it eventually...

If you strike the "problem note) then move your ear slowly around the guitar while it resonates, you may be able to find where, if not why, it's rattling...

the other thing is, as you noticed, the low E string is deep into the nut. that will cause a rattle.
remedy?
