With the treble strings i went through the hole twice with some loops and stuff and it seems to work much better now. I do think the pegs are bad because they slip every once in a while and i have to retune but i can actually get it to pitch now. Thanks guys for all the help

I don't know exactly how you attached the strings at the bridge. There is one way where people just tie a knot or two in the end of the string to make a 'ball-end' and then go from there; the knot keeping the string from slipping through the hole. The more standard way is a little different, where the end is brought up over the top of the bridge, looped under itself a few times - depending on the the gauge of the string - and then locked in place like I said, with the tail caught under the previous loops.

If you're doing the 'ball end' version, sometimes the knot starts to slip under tension and the pitch will keep lowering even as you're trying to raise it.

Here's a link to doing it the standard way, which you may or may not have tried:

http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/Guitar/Setup/Classical/ClassicStr/classicstr1.html

Then I start winding. Some guys actually thread it through, loop it and tie a knot in there before letting the rest of the string wind around the post.

Or...since you're not using ball-ends, it *might* be slipping at the bridge. On the high E I loop it under 3 times if I have room, and then the tail of it hangs off the back edge of the bridge and gets 'caught' by the rest of the string.

But...could be the tuners like someone said. When you're winding that string to pitch, is the post physically moving in a steady, consistent movement, or does it jerk? Also, when the string's pitch goes flat, can you see that post moving backward a little?

Hmmm...dunno if this helps.

That can either be the tuners slipping, as Indi says, or the saddle moving (sure it's solid? string tension will be a lot more force than just wiggling it with your finger :)) or the other end of your strings (is the ball end right against whatever this guitar's got to hold it? Next, i pulled out a brand new set of DAddario Pro Arte classical strings and began to restring it. The EADGB strings seemed to work fine, however they dont stay in tune for more than about a minute. However, the biggest problem i encountered is:

The high E string will not reach a high enough pitch. It gets to about a B then actually drops in pitch. Personally i didnt think that the pitch could drop if the string was tightened.

Anyways, does anyone know what the problem may be? Possibly something to do with the nut?
