Well.... I talked to my boss about it yesterday and he said "let's do it". I said "O.K.!"

So I brought in my guitar today and we went over the schematics a little more and after further review we knew what we had to do.

The operation was a success!

I realized that the stress alone caused me to second guess my instincts. My first instincts were correct. The black went to the 5-way, the green and bare went to the ground and the red and white were soldered together and left to hang (but, to be safe I heat shrieked them).

All in all, it was easier than I thought it would be. Just goes to show, don't let your project get the best of you!

It looks like what they are showing you is a standard wiring diagram so yes the the white and red get soldered together and don't go anywhere. They just create the full circuit for the pup. Make sure you put tape on them or something.

The green and naked both go to ground. They are the grounds for the 2 coils.

The reason the red and white go together is to give you a full pup for the connection as they complete the circuit between the coils. These 2 wires can be used in combinations to give you alternate sounds and do splits and so forth with some advanced wiring mods. Do a search on pickup wiring and you will find a bunch of sites with modes that use these wires. For example GuitarNuts at http://www.guitarnuts.com/index.php

But I agree, it's a pretty lame diagram!

If you get no response, you might leave a post at guitarnuts.com; there's some helpful folk there as well.

Take care.
