The open cavity acts like the soundhole on an acoustic, just on the back of the guitar. Plugged in, I notice a little difference (kind of like the sound is freed up - hard to explain), but this could be in my head.]]></content:encoded>

                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[I've heard a lot of people say that removing the backplate on a Strat (the part that covers the trem cavity) is a tonal improvement.  Can anyone explain why this is?  I'm just curious.  <br><br>I personally remove the backplate but only because I think it looks dumb with it on there.  I also install 5 springs and block the trem with a wedge of wood.]]></content:encoded>
