I was playing an Epi. LP at Guitar Center once and I was thinking of buying it. But before I buy any guitar, I play every fret on each string, looking for problems. Well this LP had a "dead fret" on the G string at about the 10th fret. It wasn't buzzing or anything, it just wouldn't play. I think the problem was that the fret was loose. It wasn't seated tightly on the fingerboard. The guitar tech said they would have to send it out for repair.

Check these links out:
http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Luthier/Technique/Setup/BuzzDiagnosis/LooseFret/loosefret.html
http://www.richbeckguitars.com/FretGuide.htm
