I never seen a Gibson single coil like this, someone told me that it is possible to be a Melody Maker but I never seen one like a SG!

HELP!!!! I have what I believe is a real oddball Gibson SG, according to the serial # (614820) and embossed "Made in U.S.A", I think its an early 70's make. Walnut or cherry body, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard (not bound). Dot MOP fretmarkers and side markers. Possible vibrola trem. (three holes behind unknown tailpiece). As this guitar has been belt sanded and abused, I have no idea what color it was. My question is that this guitar has a single coil gibson pickup that is about the same size as a fender strat bridge pickup but has "Gibson" in script embossed on top. I don't think its a low Z pickup like the old LP recording models. It also has a very wide retaining ring around it ( 1/2 inch ). bridge pickup was a P-90, now a humbucker. No pick guard or holes to mount one that I can see. 35 years of working and playing Gibsons and I have never seen one like this, can anybody help me I.D. this? Its a friend of mine's and he and I are really curious about it! Thanks!!!!!! :) Racetruck1@verizon.net
